Willie Keane Memorial Weekend (October Bank Holiday weekend annually)

This festival is in honour of the late Willie Keane, a great ambassador on both a local and national level for traditional Irish dancing and in particular, the Mullagh set. Willie won many competitions for his exposition of this art form and was featured on television shows such as ‘The Pure Drop’. He sadly passed away in 1998 but his grandchildren can be seen following his steps on occasion during the many traditional sessions over the weekend.

 The Doonbeg Christmas Market

market dark 1

Each year in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Trump International Golf Resort Doonbeg holds a Christmas market in its courtyard area. This event has proved hugely popular over the years and is a great place to unwind and get into the Christmas spirit with family members and friends. If shopping is your thing, you’ll find a mix of both the wonderful and the unusual here and it’s always a hit with the kids. There is a train to bring visitors to the market area as well as firework display on one evening.

Declan Hayes memorial half marathon & 10k (first weekend in September)

declanhayes

This event is held in memory of a local man who died in tragic circumstances in 2010 and caters for all ages and fitness levels. Participants can take in all the beauty of west Clare along the route while raising much needed funds for local charities.
